Faster Time-To-Development - MontaVista Linux CGE7 offers a complete embedded Linux distribution and tools to get up and running rapidly. Using the industry standard Yocto™, leverage existing work and move to MontaVista Linux CGE7 with the assurance of feature compatibility and a clear migration path.
CGE7 also offers readily available board support of leading embedded SoCs ensuring you can immediately begin development. With the release of CGE7, equipment manufacturers gain additional enablers for quick market launch with the incorporation of key technology packages for Virtualization and Carrier Grade.
Lower your cost of ownership - One has two clear choices when choosing to use Linux in your project;
use a commercial Linux or do it yourself (DIY).
DIY is very attractive as there are no associated fees or licenses. However, DIY does have a burden cost that you must continue to develop, support, maintain, comply to, and manage. You are the Linux provider.
MontaVista can lower your cost of ownership significantly.
MontaVista provides a Best-In-Class Linux distribution and development environment that has off the shelf, ready to go support for the most popular embedded SoCs. We maintain this high quality distribution with frequent updates to bug fixes, toolchain, and important security patches.
Rapid hardware enablement - MontaVista had been working with embedded processors since day one. It is our DNA.
We were the first commercial Linux to support PowerPC. Today, we continue to support PowerPC along with MIPS, x86, and ARM by offering board support packages (BSPs) for leading reference hardware SoCs. This also includes any necessary toolchain updates to support new processor architectures.
In addition, MontaVista can develop BSPs for custom hardware and continue to perform maintenance on it via our Board Maintenance Program (BMP). MontaVista’s BMP will add the board to our large board farm that will continually be tested through our rigorous manual and automated testing process.ARM has risen in popularity and adoption in embedded devices as such MontaVista has put focus and emphasis to support various ARM SoCs, such as ARM v7/v9 and ARM64 (v8). MontaVista is a core member of the Linaro Networking Group and on the Technical Steering Committee.
Core competence can be your focus - MontaVista’s Linux offering takes the headache out of managing and maintaining a Linux distribution.
Our distributions are of high quality, rigorously tested with tests designed over 15 years. And we stand behind our distribution providing indemnification from GPL and FOSS/export compliance. Ultimately, you can focus on your core competence and value added applications.
Be compliant without even trying - Choosing Linux for your next generation network or NFV project brings value from truly open source software.
The community enables continuous development and innovation. It also requires one to be aware and compliant to GPL, FOSS, and export laws and regulations.Adopting MontaVista CGE7 gives you peace of mind. We indemnify our distribution and will defend you in legal actions against it. In addition, we comply with export laws..
CGE7 supports x86, ARM, MIPS, and Power PC architectures with support of over 25 ready to use Board Support Packages (BSPs) of popular SoC reference hardware and commercial embedded boards.
Since the launch of CGE6, MontaVista has also been a forerunner and believer in bitbake and the OpenEmbedded embedded development paradigm. With the Yocto project, MontaVista is taking this to the next level by making CGE7 fully Yocto 1.4 compatible. This allows MontaVista customers to take full advantage of the existing Yocto/OpenEmbedded ecosystem with its support for added feature layers and hardware support.
CGE7 provides the powerful GNU toolchain for embedded development. The toolchain includes a set of cross platform tools such as GCC 4.7 compiler, GDB 7.4 debugger, glibc 2.15, binutils 2.22 to build the Linux platform and applications for popular embedded CPU architectures.
DevRocket is MontaVista’s Eclipse based IDE, providing full functionality to develop and deliver a MontaVista Linux based platform. Whether from the command line (CLI) or graphical user interface (GUI), DevRocket offers “One Click” an automated edit/compile/debug mechanism, powerful kernel and application debugging along with memory and performance analysis tools (LTTng). In addition, DevRocket simplifies the build task with an easy to use GUI to identify the source packages needed along with resolving conflicts and dependencies for building and managing the target distribution.
CGE7 is MontaVista’s 7th edition of Carrier Grade Linux. It is compliant to the Carrier Grade Linux Specification 5.0 from the Linux Foundation. It incorporates additional serviceability, high availability, advanced networking, and real-time features needed for next generation high performance, cloud based networks. Features such as hot swap, microstate accounting, application core dump, and flight recorder enable NEMs to build six 9s uptime telecom solutions.
Over 1500 userland packages such as tripwire, SMART package manager, crash, and SNMP are incorporated into CGE7. MontaVista integrates and builds these userland packages for ease of use and instant availability of useful tools and applications.
CGE7 is built on the 3.10 Long Term Support (LTS) kernel. This enables our customers 10+ years support for CGE7, allowing them to provide long life products to their customers. MontaVista also supports a unified kernel approach. All enhancements and fixes are applied and tested across all architectures, making multiple family CPU product maintenance more seamless.
MontaVista Zone is the portal access to CGE7 source code, documentation, and product guides. Customers will find their necessary source code in Zone to build their MontaVista CGE7 Linux platform along with a platform to request support cases.
